Myths About Fat, Cholesterol and Carbohydrates Exposed With Scientific Research

There are times I find a book and spend time reading and rereading it. My latest such book is Brian Peskin's The 24-Hour Diet. Peskin goes through medical textbooks and scientific research to prove that much of what we hold sacred about cholesterol, heart disease, fat, carbohydrates and obesity are flat out wrong.

Findings in Scientific Journals and Medical Texts Contrary to Popular Opinion

I'm just going to list these. They will give you food for thought. Since we've accepted many of these myths as truths, I suggest you do your own research and make your own discoveries.

Oh, and by the way, if you look for Brian Peskin in Quackwatch, he's there. Just know that Quackwatch is greatly funded by the pharmaceutical industry and they would certainly want to discredit any information that would cost them sales.

Here we go:

Carbohydrates, sanctioned by the US Department of Agriculture's Food Pyramid, contain a chemical called glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) which puts fat on the body.
Fat (lipids) from natural foods, that means not manufactured, do not cause obesity because they don't add body fat (adipose tissue).
Carbohydrates (4 ounces more than you need a day) keep you from burning body adipose tissue because it keeps your insulin levels high.
Fatty acids, not carbohydrates are what the body uses as energy.
In a survey of 1700 people, most with heart disease had cholesterol levels below 250, where the medical community wants you to be. Those without heart disease generally had levels above 300.
When a package says "low fat" you are getting added sugar which raises insulin levels and puts those rolls on your body.
Dietary lipids satisfy hunger.
Overeating of carbohydrates and transfats (in processed food) can cause hormone problems in woman.
Butter is good for you. Margarine is not.
The best oils are olive oil and organic coconut, grape seed, palm and peanut oil.
Natural lipids give you more energy. Carbohydrates sap energy.
Plaque in your arteries is made of the oils found in most supermarkets... corn, canola, soy
Increasing dietary cholesterol 300% raises your blood cholesterol level only 6%. (Researchers expected at least a 50% increase).

Our Diets are Fed by False Information

Someone has an opinion and, if repeated enough, it is accepted as fact when they are only myths. They become so hard wired into us, that we gloss over research that contradicts what we've thought was true. We need to take a hard look at what "experts" say, take responsibility for ourselves, and do some of our own research.

How To Lower LDL Cholesterol Naturally Before It Gets Worse

Your cholesterol can be a pro or a con. Lets talk about what it is! Cholesterol is a plasma that runs throughout your bloodstream, and is found within your fat. There a high density lipoprotein that your body naturally produces. It's necessary so that we can protect our own bodies from cholesterol. High density lipoprotein or (HDL) is opposite of lipoprotein (LDL.) Lipoprotein is bad cholesterol that will clog your arteries and prevent the natural functioning of your body. It will effect your liver and nutrients deliverance to your heart and your brain. It's important to know if you are at risk for high cholesterol, that way you can check on it at an early stage and take care of it before it gets worse. The great thing is that once you know that you have it you are capable of lowering it and maintaining it at a healthy level. After informing yourself you will know how to lower cholesterol.

The most important thing that you need to do is watch what you have been eating. If you have found out that your cholesterol is high in LDL and you have been eating over processed foods, or a lot of meat and dairy products- than you know what the problem is! You need to switch up your diet and do it fast! Those foods are very high in saturated fat, and saturated fat is what causes your cholesterol to rise. You need to avoid foods like meat and eggs. If you are going to eat eggs, then only eat the egg whites. The yolk is very high in cholesterol. Besides eating correctly, there are other remedies that you can improve. Instead of cooking with butter in your pan, than use white wine vinegar or vegetable oil.

Recognise your weight if you are concerned. The worst thing to have is high cholesterol and be overweight. You have a higher risk of (eventually) heart disease, having a stroke or having a heart attack if you are overweight. Did you know that you can actually lower your cholesterol up to 20% if you lost weight? It's difficult to monitor food ingredients and grocery shopping when you're working full time and taking care of a million other things. If you have trouble restricting yourself, then buy pre-packaged meal plans. They will help you to lose weight and they have the sufficient amount of nutrients that your body needs; never a meal that is fried or processed. If exercising hasn't been a thing of the past, it may be another factor in your health problem. You need to have physical activity throughout the week for every aspect of your health! Exercising improves your mood, your metabolism, your physique and will motivate you to eat better after all of your hard work.

Just because you might be ageing it does not mean that you are more prone to having higher cholesterol. As long as you're taking care of yourself and you get regular check ups than you have nothing to worry about; but studies have shown that certain races are more prone to high cholesterol than others. It's the same scale for your age, but African-Americans (more so the women) are more likely to have it and heart disease.

There are medications that you can take for it, such as Statin. Studies have shown that they do work- but, this does not mean that you can excuse yourself from maintaining your health. Along with medication comes self discipline and knowledge of your body. The strength of the medication also depends on what level your cholesterol is at.

If you aren't sure as to whether or not you have LDL, there are no symptoms! After the age of 20 it would be smart of you to take a test, because it is the only way that you will know. You should take extra precaution if you have had a sedentary lifestyle. That includes smoking, drinking, eating habits, your stress level and certain medications. If you are tested the first time with proficient results, than don't assume that you will have the same results five years later. That is why it is recommended that you test your cholesterol every five years! Since there are no symptoms, many realize that they are victim after their first heart attack.

Now that you know how to lower cholesterol, you know that playing it safe is better than taking a risk! If you are not at risk for LDL than consider yourself lucky, and prevent it from ever effecting your lifestyle. I cannot stress enough how much progress will come from eating well and working out! You will find that after you lower your cholesterol, that you will have an abundance of energy! Feeling healthy is the foundation of your world- socially, mentally, physically and emotionally! Your body is sacred and you only have one. If you are capable of something, than you shouldn't let go of it! Don't let go of your health just because you are lazy!
